Right now, more people than ever are at home going online. While this may sound like a good thing for your online presence, it also creates a lot more 'noise'.
So how do you get found online in the midst of all that activity?
One way is to be sure you have a Google My Business (or GMB for short) account.
The world searches on Google for everything. For example, every month there are over
5 billion searches for restaurants
3 billion searches for hotels
1 billion searches for clothing stores
600 hundred million searches for hair salons
5 million searches for coffee shops
If you haven't set up a GMB account yet, or if you started one but haven't updated it in awhile (say in the last 90 days or longer), now is a great time to get it in tip-top shape.
Why set up a Google My Business Account?
1. It's free.
And who doesn't want to participate in something that's free from the largest search engine in the universe?
2. It helps your customers find you easily.
Again, why not use a free, easy-to-use tool to help more people find you?
3. It lets you display useful information and allows people to leave reviews.
Think of it as a quick snapshot of your business. Your name, website, hours of operation, location, phone number, and photos. Just the facts your eager prospect wants when they are in a hurry to find an answer.
How to set up a Google My Business Account
As with everything Google does, it's very easy to set up a GMB account. Simply head over to this link and either sign in or sign up. Simply follow the prompts to fill in your business information.
When you get to the point of verifying your information, choose the most convenient way for you (text, email, postcard, etc.). Don't skip this step! Google will not show your information until your business is verified.
What to expect from a Google My Business Account
Every month you'll get performance updates, notifications when your posts will expire, and alerts when someone leaves a review.
Google likes when you use their products and they especially like it when all your information is updated and correct. So keeping tabs on your account on a monthly basis, whether it's posting an update, photo, or video, you will be showing Google that you're active and care about your online presence.
